ECO-Friendly Endeavors
"Santa Maria degli Angeli", all naturally beauty products
Our guests are offered hand-made, all-natural beauty products from the botanical gardens on Giudecca Island, made possible by Bauer Chair & CEO, Francesca Bortolotto Passati, and her unwavering support of a social project, the "Rio Terà dei Pensieri" cooperative. The program is a community-based initiative, founded by Raffaele Lavorato, to combine the talent and skills of organic chemists, energetic and dedicated volunteers, as well as a group of local female inmates who are housed in a 16th century convent attached to the eco-friendly gardens near the Redentore Church on the Giudecca. Together, they work to renew the region's long-standing Venetian tradition of developing all-natural cosmetic products in a sustainable community-based business. The program also provides a sense of purpose and teaches marketable trade skills to these female inmates who may never have had such a chance.
From the beginning of the 18th century, the Republic of Venice was the heart of Perfumery in Europe. As the primary commercial trading post, Venice was the destination of ships bearing essences, spices, and balms from the Orient. Professionals, known as "speziali", converted these fragrances into cosmetics and perfumes for the Venetian nobility. In fact, a Venetian, Giovanni Ventura Rossetti, is reputed to be the true inventor of "acqua Admirabilis" (a perfume water) which was later the inspiration needed by Gian Maria Farina to create "Acqua di Colonia" (cologne).
The products, under the label of "Santa Maria degli Angeli" are uniquely developed to evoke scents of the Mediterranean with the evocative influence of the Far East to cleanse, regenerate, and stimulate a feeling of freshness and well-being. The nutrient-rich soil of the ancient grounds are tended to grow the plants, flowers and herbs used in specialized formulas and conversion techniques...all meticulously supervised to ensure the products are of the highest quality.
B Mare....the BAUER of the Sea
Setting an unprecedented example, the BAUER HOTELS purchased a revolutionary, energy-efficient nautical system in October 2007 that operates with NO POLLUTION, NO NOISE, and NO WAVES. The boat leisurely shuttles guests between the Bauer's main hotel near St. Mark's square to the Bauer Palladio Hotel & Spa on Giudecca Island.
The realization of this clean-energy transportation system was a personal quest by Francesca Bortolotto Possati, Chair & CEO of Bauer Hotels. It is her strong belief this investment will be a model of economic savings and growth in the travel and tourism industry while making a conscious choice for environmental responsibility and reducing carbon dioxide emissions. She is the first in Italy to make such a substantial effort and dedicated this gift of preservation to her guests who appreciate the architectural integrity and atmosphere of Venice and share in her desire to sustain this city for generations to come.
EASY...A POWER-SAVING SYSTEM
Bauer guests can rest "easy" knowing their rooms are wired to be energy-conscious. A key-card closing system shuts down all electric sources to conserve energy once a guest leaves a room. Along with energy-saving electrical outlets and lightbulbs, a time-operated system has been installed to decrease power consumption during the night...all designed to aid in preserving resources.
PROJECT GREEN ANIMAL
The green plastic animal placed in most Bauer rooms is used as an icon to stimulate the reduction of water consumption and to signify a commitment to recycling. Guests can actively participate in this program by placing the animal outside their door to alert housekeeping staff to their desire to reuse towels and linens.
COMMITMENT TO RECYCE
All glass, plastic and paper generated is recycled. And, a new water conservation system is used to gather rain and condensation from the air-conditioning units to water the gardens at the Bauer Palladio Hotel & Spa.
REGIONAL FARMING PRODUCTS are used in all Bauer kitchens, not only for their flavour, but in an attempt to make a difference, however small, in lowering carbon emissions during transport.
